Reminder: Apply for Free or Reduced Lunch

Your child may qualify for free or reduced price meals

July is a busy time of the year for parents. Parents are reviewing budgets for school related purchases such as clothing, school supplies, getting children ready for the upcoming school schedule and getting prepared to support many daily activities such as homework and after school activities. Your food service department is here to help relieve another one of the common causes of stress: having to budget for your child’s meals. This way you can focus on the other areas that require your attention.

How can we help? By finding out if your child qualifies for free or reduced priced meals for this upcoming school year. This is why filling out a National School Lunch Program application as soon as possible is very important! Otherwise you may find yourself paying for full price meals when your child could have been receiving a free or reduced price meal!

Don’t forget, if your child does qualify for a free or reduced price meal, this applies not only to lunch, but to breakfast as well. So take advantage of both meal programs! Want to find out if your child qualifies for a free or reduced price meal? Fill out an application today!

Aspiring Artists – Chance to Show What You’ve Got (ages 18-25)

The National Park Service is celebrating its Centennial (1916 – 2016) this year, and as part of this celebration, we are extending an invitation to young artists to collaborate with our National Park through art. The Centennial Youth Art Show is completely coordinated, curated, and judged by young people employed at Saguaro National Park.

They are calling for young artists ages 18-25 to create and submit 2D or 3D art with a Sonoran Desert theme. Submissions will consist of an image of the art piece, a Word document that gives the title, medium, size, and description (max 200 words) of each piece; if artist would like to include a short paragraph about his/her background/inspiration, it can be added as well. Submissions will only be accepted via email in JPEG format with appropriate resolution and no later than May 13th, 2016. The chosen artists will submit their artwork by May 25th, 2016.

The art will be on display June 3rd and 4th, from 6 – 8 PM during a special program. They will display up to 3 pieces of art (1 main submission –  4’x’4 max, and the option of 2 equal/smaller pieces) per selected artist at the Saguaro National Park (Tucson Mountain District) visitor center auditorium in a show open to the public. These artists will have an opportunity to gain exposure in the community and possibly sell their art! Main submission pieces will be judged by a youth judging panel and two winners will be selected to have their art on display at the visitor center for an extended 3 weeks. Also, with the help of Friends Of Saguaro National Park (a non-profit who will be funding our artist reception), the winners will be selected to participate in FOSNP’s professional art auction in October as well as receive an Annual Pass to enter any national park or federal recreation site fee-free.

If there are any questions, please contact the chair of the Youth Art Show Committee, Corina Yeh at or 520-733-8603.

Graduation Information

Graduation is drawing near. The graduation ceremony will be held at the Vail Theatre of the Arts at 10701 E. Mary Ann Cleveland Way, Tucson, AZ 85747 on Monday, May 18, 2015 at 7:00 p.m.

Due to the large numbers of graduates and limited seating in the theatre, we’ve decided to utilize tickets for admission to the graduation ceremony.

Each graduate will be receiving five admission tickets via mail. Additional tickets may be requested by completing a request form (which has also been mailed to you) and returning it to the school by May 8, 2015. If you do not need all five you have been given, please return them to the school by May 8, 2015 as well, so we can make sure to fill as many seats as available.

Please note, in an effort to be fair to all families, every attempt will be made to honor your requests, but we cannot guarantee the number of tickets you request.

Parents will be notified on Monday, May 11, 2015 regarding additional tickets that can then be picked up at the school the week of May 11-15, 2015.

Plans are being made to have live streaming of the ceremony in the dining auditorium for non-ticketed attendees.

We appreciate your understanding.
