Notice:   INACTIVE Special Education Records

The Vail School District Special Education Office is in the process of destroying SPECIAL EDUCATION records for students that graduated from high school five years ago. We are required to notify parents or students, if they are 18 years or older, to give them an opportunity to review the records before they are destroyed. The National Park Service is celebrating its Centennial (1916 – 2016) this year, and as part of this celebration, we are extending an invitation to young artists to collaborate with our National Park through art. The Centennial Youth Art Show is completely coordinated, curated, and judged by young people employed at Saguaro National Park.

They are calling for young artists ages 18-25 to create and submit 2D or 3D art with a Sonoran Desert theme. Submissions will consist of an image of the art piece, a Word document that gives the title, medium, size, and description (max 200 words) of each piece; if artist would like to include a short paragraph about his/her background/inspiration, it can be added as well. Submissions will only be accepted via email in JPEG format with appropriate resolution and no later than May 13th, 2016. The chosen artists will submit their artwork by May 25th, 2016.

The art will be on display June 3rd and 4th, from 6 – 8 PM during a special program. They will display up to 3 pieces of art (1 main submission –  4’x’4 max, and the option of 2 equal/smaller pieces) per selected artist at the Saguaro National Park (Tucson Mountain District) visitor center auditorium in a show open to the public. These artists will have an opportunity to gain exposure in the community and possibly sell their art! Main submission pieces will be judged by a youth judging panel and two winners will be selected to have their art on display at the visitor center for an extended 3 weeks. Also, with the help of Friends Of Saguaro National Park (a non-profit who will be funding our artist reception), the winners will be selected to participate in FOSNP’s professional art auction in October as well as receive an Annual Pass to enter any national park or federal recreation site fee-free.

If there are any questions, please contact the chair of the Youth Art Show Committee, Corina Yeh at corina_yeh@partner.nps.gov or 520-733-8603.
